200 of the best artists from the beginning of XX century to our days.
The British newspaper The Times made a rating of 200 best artists, who lived in since the beginning of XX century to our days. The publication four months ago, asked its readers to vote for the most famous figures of art of this time. For different artists received 1.4 million votes. As a result the first place with 21,587 votes, won the great Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. The last line rating busy modern Japanese artist and photographer Hiroshi Sudzhimoto. Second place was given to the French Impressionist Paul Cezanne, readers have chosen the third founder of the Austrian Art Nouveau paintings of Gustav Klimt. In the first ten are also on the two French impressionist Claude Monet and Henri Matisse, Marcel Duchamp, the famous, including his scandalous installing a urinal, an American painter Jackson Pollock. Top ten close the pop art legend Andy Warhol, the representative of the abstract expressionist Willem de Kooning and the famous modernist Piet Mondrian. According to the newspaper, at first glance, the results of this survey may seem predictable, but you can find some oddities. For example, what makes the contemporary artist Martin Kippenburger, whose picture, in particular, are presented in Saatchi Gallery, in the top twenty grand? According to newspaper reviewers, the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and does not deserve such a high place, as 19-e, in this representative of the company - even the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch in his masterpiece "The Scream" is only 46 th place. Even if we assume that Kahlo is awarded due to the fact that her paintings express the feminine essence, seems strange that Louise Bourgeois, the impact that had on future generations of its work, was only 70 th. As the paper says, the best of British artists in the rankings - Francis Bacon - only the 12 th, 30 th place is super popular in the UK Lucien Freud. Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst took the 52-th and 53 th places respectively. From the Russian artists in the rankings appear Wassily Kandinsky (15 th), the creator of "Black Square Kasimir Malevich (17 th). 95-m in the list marked by the Ukrainian-American artist and sculptor Alexander Archipenko, whose work is represented in almost all the major museums of the world. 135-e was replaced by one of the founders of constructivist Alexander Rodchenko.
