Duccio di Buoninsegna (1255-1260 – 1318-1319) was one of the most influential Italian artists of his time. Born in Siena, Tuscany, he worked mostly with pigment and egg tempera and like most of his contemporaries he painted religious subject matters. He has influenced Simone Martini  and the brothers Ambrogio and Pietro Lorenzetti among others.

Lippo Memmi (c. 1280 – 1356) was an Italian painter from Siena. He was the foremost follower of Simone Martini, who was his brother-in-law. Together with Martini, in 1333 he painted one of the masterworks of the International Gothic, the Annunciation for the Sienese church of Sant'Ansano (now in the Uffizi). He was one of the artistd who worked at the Orvieto Cathedral, for which he finished the Madonna della Misericordia. Later he followed Martini at the Papal court in Avignon, where he worked until the mid-14th century. After his return to Siena Memmi uted several works until his death in 1356.

Ambrogio Lorenzetti  (or Ambruogio Laurati; c. 1290 – June 9, 1348) was an Italian painter of the Sienese school.

Pietro Lorenzetti (born c. 1280, /90, Siena?, Republic of Siena, died c. 1348, Siena) - italian Gothic painter of the Sienese school who with his brother Ambrogio was the principal exponent of Sienese secular art in the years before the Black Death. Little is known of Lorenzetti’s life, and the attribution and dating of many of the works associated with him remains hazardous.

Simone Martini (c. 1284 – c. 1344) was an Italian painter born in Siena. He was a major figure in the development of early Italian painting and greatly influenced the development of the International Gothic style. It is thought that Martini was a pupil of Duccio di Buoninsegna, the leading Sienese painter of his time. His brother-in-law was the artist Lippo Memmi Very little documentation survives regarding Simone's life, and many attributions are debated by art historians. Simone Martini died while in the service of the Papal court at Avignon in 1344
