Antonello da Messina, properly Antonello di Giovanni di Antonio (c. 1430 – February 1479) was an Italian painter from Messina, Sicily, active during the Italian Renaissance. His work shows strong influences from Early Netherlandish painting and, unusually for a painter from Southern Italy, he was influential on the art of Northern Italy, especially Venice.

Artist Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema is recognized as one of the masters of Victorian painting. When he settled in England in the 1870s, his mature style had already evolved, and connoisseurs eagerly embraced the work of this talented artist

Alexander ia an American painter and illustrator. He began his career in New York in 1875 as a political cartoonist and illustrator for Harper’s Weekly. In 1877 he went to Paris for his first formal art training, and then to Munich, he enrolled at the Kunstakademie under Gyuala Benczúr.

Hoosier impressionist artist John Ottis Adams was born on July 8, 1851 in Johnson County, Indiana. He was a member of the renowned “Hoosier Group” of artists that reached their zenith during the period of 1890 through 1915. 

Abram Efimovich Arkhipov (Russian: ) (August 27 [O.S. August 15] 1862 – September 25, 1930) was a Russian realist artist, who was a member of the art collective The Wanderers as well as the of Russian Artists. Themes that occur within his artwork include the lives of Russian women, with some of his realist paintings depicting their grim daily realities. Arkhipov also painted several paintings of peasant women in rural Russia, depicting them in vibrant traditional dresses and national costumes. Like others in the of Russian Artists, Arkhipov also painted regularly en plein air, travelling and painting scenes the North of Russia and the White Sea coast. Arkhipov died in Moscow in 1930.

Andreas Achenbach (September 29, 1815 - April 1, 1910) was a German landscape painter.

Sophie Gengembre Anderson (1823 – 10 March 1903) was a French-born British artist who specialised in genre painting of children and women, typically in rural settings. Her work is loosely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Sophie was born in Paris, the daughter of Charles Gengembre, an architect, and his English wife. She had two brothers, Philip and Henry P. She was largely self-taught in art, but briefly studied portraiture with Charles de Steuben in Paris in 1843. The family left France for the United States to escape the 1848 revolution, first settling in Cincinnati, Ohio, then Manchester, Pennsylvania, where she met and married British genre artist W Anderson.

Agasse was Born in Geneva in 1767. Agasse was the son of one of the oligarchic families who governed the republic. He experienced a privileged upbringing spending his childhood summers on their estate in Crevin.

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky was born in the family of a merchant of Armenian origin in the town of Feodosia, Crimea. His parents were under strained circumstances and he spent his childhood in poverty. With the help of people who had noticed the talented youth, he entered the Simpheropol gymnasium, and then the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, he took the landscape painting course and was especially interested in marine landscapes.

Francesco Albani or Albano (17 March or 17 August 1578 – 4 October 1660) was an Italian Baroque painter of the Albani family. He had an Albanian decent.
